VelaSmooth is an FDA approved cellulite treatment from Syneron Medical Ltd. The technology utilized by VelaSmooth combines mechanical massage with suction and the deep heating effect of light and radio waves to break down fat.
The suction will lift the skin while the mechanical rollers massage the problem area to stretch out and smooth the connective tissue and fatty deposits. The infrared light will heat the skin and tissues to a depth of about one-fifth of an inch, while the radio waves will warm the deeper tissue to more than half an inch. The manipulating and stretching effect of the rollers will also allow the heating process to be more effective. The infrared and radio frequency (RF) waves will then cause oxygen to be activated in the cells, as the fatty tissues are metabolized and broken down. The web pattern of the trapped fat cells will be diffused and fat cells will shrink to break down the dimpling pattern. As a result, the surface of the skin will become fuller and smoother, no longer having to contour to unsightly ripples and dips.
The non-surgical, non-invasive VelaSmooth procedure is done on a massage table, and it requires no anesthetic and generally no down time. The treatment may take 45 minutes to one hour, depending on the size and number of areas to be treated, as well as any special attention for problem areas. The cellulite reduction sessions are typically performed two times a week, with the first noticeable results coming after about three weeks. Ten sessions (five weeks) will usually give patients major skin-tightening and smoothing changes, although some severe cases may require up to 16 sessions to see the best results. A protocol of monthly maintenance treatments is recommended to keep the results intact for the long run.
Vela smooth is a safe, effective, and approved technique for reducing the appearance of cellulite while contouring and smoothing unsightly problem areas. While most patients report a pleasant, relaxed feeling. However, as with any deep tissue massage, some people will feel pinching and discomfort. Certain predisposed patients may experience minor bruising. The heat and manipulation may render the skin pink and slightly sensitive immediately following a treatment session.
