Cosmetic procedures are becoming more and more popular as people strive to appear younger. Ridding yourself of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, uneven skin tone, bags under the eyes, rosacea, age spots, and a red complexion can take years off of your face, and everyone is clamoring to find the best procedures with the least amount of healing time. The IPL photofacial treatment is a new, non-ablative technique that can treat most of the aforementioned skin problems, and is considered an excellent alternative to chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser resurfacing. The treatment consists of an Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL. The biggest plus to the photofacial treatment is that there are never any marks or incision scars.
There are no injections required for the IPL photofacial treatment, but instead a broadband of light is delivered directly to the surface of the damaged skin. This intense light treats the deeper part of the skin and leaves the top layer of skin unharmed. Each treatment session lasts anywhere from thirty to forty-five minutes, and they are typically scheduled at three week intervals. Do not expect to see results straight way. Most patients require five to eight treatments before they achieve the results they are seeking.
As previously mentioned, there are no incisions or injections, but some patients might experience a bit of discomfort during the procedure. The light beam on the skin has been compared to the snapping of a rubber band. The discomfort fades very quickly, though, because it never is anything more than a mild irritation. Some patients may experience a bit of redness and swelling, and in very rare cases some blistering and bruising. These are not permanent, however, and will fade in a matter of days. The results of photofacial treatments can last for years, though.
The cost of the IPL photofacial treatment can range from $400 to $800 per treatment session. It is very important that you do plenty of research before settling on the clinic that will perform your procedure. You will find that, due to the cosmetic nature of the treatment, your insurance will not cover any of the sessions. For this reason, you will want to find a clinic or doctor’s office that will work with you on financing. With five or more sessions needed before the maximum results can be achieved, this procedure can end up being very pricey. Make sure that you get all of the associated costs in writing, too, before you commit to the treatments, so that you are not surprised later by a large, unexpected bill.
The greatest joy behind the IPL photofacial treatment is the lack of recovery time. You will be able to get right back to your daily routine immediately, and you can even cover up any lingering redness from the procedure with makeup. Any discomfort can be treated with a mild over-the-counter painkiller. This is one cosmetic procedure that provides lasting results with the least amount of pain.
